Yeah, I know.....with five days until Christmas I should be posting holiday stuff.
But, instead I have this rolling around in my head, so I thought I would let it out:
Why do we let the coolest of old sayings pass us by? Every 10-15 years old clothing styles come back (praying that acid-wash never makes a full return). Hairstyles also make simliar circles (bee-hive anyone?). Even old movies and songs get remade constantly.
But, I have to wonder, why is no one the "cat's pajamas" anymore? I love silly old saying like that. Maybe it is because being a writer makes me love words and language so very much, but I just can't help it!
Thing is, I just don't know enough of them! I know a "right smart", but I don't think I have enough.
What are your favorite old colloquiliasms? Teach me some new ones, and I will dub you the "cat's pajamas", too!

Oh I totally use "the cat's pajamas" Try "the bees knees" when you're really stoked on something. My kids aren't old enough to know how silly their momma is, but it's fun!
Ahhhh........"the bee's knees"! I forgot that one! Thanks, Stephanie.
We have a dancing Halloween thing that sings and dances, wears the pinstripe suit, etc. At the end of one of the songs he says "I'm the cat's pajamas!!!!" Too funny!
What about "We are cooking like gas." That's one my mom says frequently!
My favorite is my grandmother's old saying which I guess is also just a Southern saying. "I Swannee" or just "I Swan'" instead of "I swear". You know the song, "Way down south, upon the Swannee river..." I still say it!
"I'll be consarned" was one my granny used alot. I still don't know what word it is supposed to be. Peachy-keen,narly,gag me with a spoon, totally tubular. Can you tell I was an "80's baby"? I have to say my favorites that I can remember was "Like no way dude. DUDE get real." A wonderful unisex word that still slips into my vocabulary. DUDE.
If you feel froggy, leap. or Well, if you're feeling froggy... instead of Well if you really want to...
